教得AMusTCL咁勁(我知好似連LMusTCL都有tim), 就覺得會是David Leung老師教, 因為佢真係學識好廣博架~正在問uwants的人有冇人知~
我幾年前上過工聯會David Leung的grade 8樂理課, 覺得佢教得好好; 不過我都聽過有d forum有人話佢教考試就唔掂, 咁我都覺, 因為佢唔係非常exam oriented, 要去考試既就自己做多d past paper就ok 啦, 考試d野其實淺過佢上堂教果d, 但佢講得咁深, 有好多其實都吸收唔晒既, 有d人會覺得仲迷茫左都唔定~
我覺得佢教得好係因為係佢令我好鐘意音樂架*U_U*!! 我直頭覺得他是我的恩師, 對我黎講他是好重要的人~我中學時考完piano grade 8後就幾年冇再掂音樂既野, 因為piano老師除左彈琴就冇教我其他野, 我唔覺得fine music很迷人, 之後我是流於閒時彈下流行曲; 不過大學時偶然上左David老師的theory課後就覺得原來fine music的世界好大, 好多野都好吸引~除左音樂外, 他仲會提到一d其他同時期的藝術跟音樂互相影響既野, 上課時你會覺得似去左音樂講座/導賞會多d; 佢自己本是composer, 睇得出佢係講緊what's music?而不是只想講what's the theory exam?佢真係教緊一門藝術而不是純知識和考試~
好記得一次, 佢請左假有另一位教第二班theory老師黎代課, 我唔記得佢係邊個, 但果個老師就好exam oriented, 上堂就是做題目, 講點?fast track做到果d呢d, 又話樂理和作曲只是數學和計算; 跟住下一堂David老師番黎, 佢唔知點解好巧合地講左一句:音樂唔係數學, 唔係計數, 而最重要是你想要怎樣的音響效果和要表達什麼...如果我當時上課時不是入了David老師果班, 我諗我唔會有今日好鐘意音樂的我, 我唔會再去學其他樂器, 唔會去concert, 唔會教琴了~
不過如果我要join 呢個course, 就會冇晒星期日家庭生活; 我本來sunday off的, 但後黎因為參加viola class所以要sunday 1-2pm上課, 於是就諗既然唔可以sunday whole day去玩咁就上午教埋琴, 咁我下午開始family day, 但呢個AMusTCL班是上sunday 4-6pm *V_V*; 要好吸引我才會去上, 如果join了, 而覺得唔開心, 中途唔上都好重皮, 因為個course都要$2,100~

本考試研習班不單為裝備學員參予Trinity Guildhall-
AMusTCL 初級樂理文憑的專業公開考試而設，也同時提供相
等於學位第一年程度相若的和聲學知識予學員，幫助他們掌
握各類風格的和聲寫作和分析，甚至可裝備學員達到一定知
識水平，去應付各大專院校的音樂系入學試。凡想繼續進修
樂理，增加對音樂的認識，以及對樂曲寫作、分析有興趣的
學員，皆可參加。
本課程內容如下：(1) 和聲溫習；(2) 巴哈聖詠的和聲
編寫；(3) 樂隊編寫法；(4) 二十世紀旋律寫作；(5) 考試
指定樂曲分析研究；(6) 試卷研習。
本課程以粵語及英語進行講授。
入學資格：學員須具備英國皇家聯合音樂學院八級樂理或
相等程度

I read your blog, and go to take David Leung's class about the grade 8 music theory. And, I am very disappointed.
May be he is very knowledgeable, I am not sure, but definitely he don't like students asking questions. That is, you can only sit and listen to what he want to teach you. If you have any query or want to clarify some details, you better don't try, he will answer you in a way that frustrate you only.
He don't care whether his students understand or not. And, never dream that he will explain in more detail if you raised your query.
And he has mentioned many times that usually only less than 10 students will complete the entire course. As the drop out rate is so high, you can figure out the reason.
So, I will say, unless you have a very good musicianship, and confidence you can learn quick, otherwise,I will advise you try other tutor.
One more thing, David Leung did not teach grade 5 music theory for several years already. So the message leave by pp01 may be referring to another Leung sir, not David Leung.
Agree with the above comment. i went to learned with David Leung after i read this blog as well, and i dropped out.
He may be a very distinct composer or musician, but i personally do not think he's a good teacher. He likes to describe other students (not in our class) as 好渣/好差. I am also a teacher myself but i do think a "teacher" should never say a student is 好渣 because no one is born with knowledge and if they are willing to learn there shouldn't be good or bad students.
If you are aiming at taking exams by going to his class, be prepared that he will charge you more then what he mentioned at first. He does not follow strictly to his lesson plan and lessons are totally non-exam- oriented- he can use 4 lessons to talk about something unnecessary for exams and ask you to join other classes which you need to take to prepare for exams, and end up you will be paying more than you planned.
Also be prepared, if you take 1.5 hr lesson, he may be getting off the topic/ bragging for at least 30- 45 mins.
Apart from the above, i do think that he is a talented musician and I did learn a lot from him. If you think exam is no big deal, like arrogant teacher and don't care about money- Learn wit him.
